Biomass heating for Rutland Golf course

As part of the club house refurbishment project, Luffenham Golf Course in Rutland decided the time was right to replace their old oil-fired boiler heating system (central heating and hot water) servicing the Members’ Area, the Clubhouse Bar, the Golf Professional Shop, Greenkeepers’ sheds and two staff cottages.

Solution
Linked via a district hot water main supplying heat to the club buildings, this project was very well suited to the non-domestic 20-year Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) – an index-linked Government funded scheme to encourage replacement of fossil fuel heating systems with renewable sources such as biomass, heat pumps and solar thermal.

Greenwatt oversaw the biomass project from inception to completion. A 150kW Lindner wood chip boiler system was installed on schedule by our partner Fluid Solutions Ltd and ahead of the April 1st 2015 RHI tariff degression, using a containerised ‘heat cabin’ solution as shown below. An insulated hot water main of 200m has been installed underground linking all the buildings on site.

Payback in 7 years!
Based on the 2015 RHI tariff rates Luffenham Golf Club can expect a 7 year payback and a very warm clubhouse after a breezy round of golf!
